The Social Media for Nonprofits Ignite! event will feature representatives from leading social media platforms. In true "Ignite" style, each presenter will have five minutes to present 20 slides about their nonprofit programs and initiatives. The event will feature Matthew Mahan, vice president of impact at Causes; Noah Everett, founder of TwitPic; Claire Williams who works on social innovation at Twitter; and Ramya Raghavan, nonprofit and activism manager at YouTube. The session will be followed by a Q&A led by Blackbaud’s Frank Barry and will focus on how nonprofits can best leverage the various platforms and programs. |

The technology keynote session will feature Allison Fine and Beth Kanter, best-selling authors of the recently released book The Networked Nonprofit. Allison Fine, author and speaker, will lead a conversation about how nonprofits can scale social change using social media and networks. Beth Kanter, author of Beth’s Blog, chief executive officer of Zoetica, and visiting scholar at the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, will make a virtual guest appearance.
Allison Fine
Allison Fine is co-author of the recently released best-selling book The Networked Nonprofit, published by J. Wiley. Allison has written several books and papers. She wrote Momentum: Igniting Social Change in the Connected Age, the winner of the Terry McAdams National Book Award, published in 2006 by Wiley & Sons. The Case Foundation commissioned her to write a paper on young people, Millennials, and activism called Social Citizens. She also co-edited a collection of essays, Rebooting America, on transformative ways to reinvent 21st century democracy using new media tools.
Allison hosts a monthly podcast for the Chronicle of Philanthropy called Social Good and she writes her own blog, A. Fine Blog. She is also a senior advisor to the Personal Democracy Forum and CauseWired. She was the CEO of The E-Volve Foundation from 2004 to 2005, and the founder and executive director of Innovation Network, Inc. from 1992 to 2004. She is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and New York University, and was a trustee and fire and police commissioner of Sleepy Hollow, New York.
Beth Kanter
Beth Kanter is the author of Beth’s Blog, one of the longest running and most popular blogs for nonprofits. She is also co-author of the recently released best-selling book The Networked Nonprofit, published by J. Wiley. Beth is also the CEO of Zoetica, a company that serves nonprofits and socially conscious companies with top-tier, online marketing services. In 2009, she was named by Fast Company Magazine as one of the most influential women in technology and one of Business Week’s “Voices of Innovation for Social Media.” She is currently the visiting scholar for social media and nonprofits for the Packard Foundation.
She is the curator of NTEN’s “We Are Media: Nonprofit Social Media Starter Kit,” an online community of nonprofit professionals who are interested in learning and teaching about how social media strategies and tools can enable nonprofit organizations to create, compile, and distribute their stories and change the world. She is a writer and activist dedicated to understanding and enhancing efforts to use new social media tools for social change.

Philippe Cousteau is a successful entrepreneur, activist, and entertainment personality. Alongside his work as chief executive officer of the nonprofit organization EarthEcho International and co-founder of Azure Worldwide, a strategic development company, Philippe is the chief ocean correspondent for both the Animal Planet and Planet Green channels, where he works on various ocean and water-focused documentary programs. Philippe is currently a host for Oceans, a new high-definition series premiering on Discovery Channel in 2010. Along with his sister Alexandra, Philippe is the host of Blue August, an entire month of programming on Planet Green that celebrates our oceans. He was host of Loch Ness Revealed, a one-hour special that aired on Discovery Channel in the fall of 2009. Philippe has been featured in television and radio programs across the country.
In addition, he is the chief spokesperson for environmental education for Discovery Education, the number one provider of K-12 broadband-delivered educational content to U.S. schools.
He was recently named to Smithsonian Magazine’s list of “37 under 36, America’s Young Innovators in the Arts and Sciences.” He and his sister were guest editors of the Women’s Health “Blue Issue” and he has written articles for many publications including Sport Diver magazine and National Geographic Magazine and has lectured at such institutions as The United Nations, Harvard University, and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Philippe has also testified to Congress on issues of ocean management and off-shore drilling. He was recently profiled by Bob Woodruff in an ABC News/Planet Green Channel special documentary entitled Focus Earth: Six People Saving Our Planet.
